Western Lodge has been operating as a hostel for homeless men since 1923 through The Society for The Relief of the Homeless Poor which began its work almost two hundred years ago. The Society established its work in 1819 as a response to the needs of the street homeless in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars and Economic Depression. This makes The Society one of the oldest homeless organisations in London. The aim of the project was to support homeless men in seeking housing and employment.
The work of Western Lodge continues to go from strength to strength. The project provides temporary accommodation care and support for up to ten single homeless men from the age of 30 at our newly renovated property in Tooting Bec.
